What is co-sleeping? 
In simple explanation, co-sleeping is a newborn or baby or child sleeping with one or both the parents. 


There are different ways of co-sleeping:
      1.One or both parents sleep with child/baby in the same bed. 
      2.Baby sleeps in cot at one side of the bed/children sleep on another bed in same room.

There are some pros and cons while co-sleeping with baby/children. Let’s see what 's the advantages may benefit your family.

1. Feel Secure

Your baby will feel secure and warm while sleeping next to mother, indirectly baby can fall asleep quickly if baby wakes up in the middle of the night.

     2. Ease for Breastfeeding

 A lot of parents prefer co-sleeping with baby as it is lot easier to breastfeeding instead of   stumbling down to baby’s rooms to feed them.

     3. Increase intimacy

Since mothers spend more time with their babies while sleeping, it will gain a sense of intimacy and create a strong bond with each other.

When there are so many benefits of co-sleeping yet some parents do not choose to sleep with their babies or children. Why?

1. Risk of suffocation

Baby may get suffocated due to lack of space.

2. Risk from drinking/smoking if Co-Sleeping

Co-sleeping should not practice if parents have a habits of smoking or drinking as it will pose severe health risks for baby/children. 

3.  Children become more dependent 

      Once the baby/children used to sleep with the parents, it will be difficult for them to sleep independently at a later point.














If you choose to sleep with your baby/children, you have to ensure you are following the safety
measure. 

1.  Do not indulge in smoking and alcohol.

      2. Leave baby/children head uncovered to avoid a raise in body temperature.

3. Have an ideal sleep surface. The mattress has to be firm and put the baby slightly higher, and you sleep a bit lower than baby. 

4. Buy a bigger bed. The more space you will have in bed, the better will be your sleep.

Sleeping well directly affects your mental and physical health as well as the quality of your life.Here are some tips for you to have a better night's sleep.

1.Establish a relaxing bedtime ritual . It is helpful for good sleep.

2.Keep your bedroom cool and maintain a relaxing atmosphere.

3.Reduce caffeine intake and avoid it four to six hours before bedtime.

4. Stop smoking. Reduce Nicotine intake four hours before bed, and don’t smoke least 45 minutes before bed.

5.Reduce stress as much as possible. If you toss and turn, get up. Try to write down all the things that are occupying your mind before you go to bed.

6.Take a warm bath before bed. It will relax your body.A few drops of lavender essential oil will relax your mind.

7.Avoid alcohol near bedtime.It causes you to wake up during the night.

8.Avoid eating late in the evening. A heavy meal too close to bedtime interferes with sleep.

9.Don’t exercise in the late evening. Exercise relaxes muscles and aids sleep, but vigorous exercise just before bed may interfere with sleep.

10.Only go to bed when you are feeling tired. Get out of bed if you can’t fall asleep within 10-15 minutes and return when you feel ready for sleep.

11.Avoid using smartphones, tablets and laptops within an hour before bedtimes.

12.Establish a regular sleep schedule and avoid napping during day time. It keeps your biological clock going in the right direction.

13.Get continuous sleep. Identify the amount of sleep you need to be fully alert all day, and try to get that amount each night. Make up for lost sleep as soon as possible.

14.Make sure you have quality bedding – a good mattress and supportive pillows will do wonders for your sleep.
